Well, as the storm came through, Cassys Coop was thrown into the field with all her little chickens.
About an hour after it came through when we heard a chicken dying. (We have a coyote or opossum attacking the big flock)
We went outside to see what was happening and realized through the dark and rain that her coop was not right side up, in the middle of the field. We investigated and found 4 of her 5 chickens sitting in the field wet and scared. We scooped them up, put them in a kennel and put them in the garage away from the storm and predators. You can see how far it was thrown, the feeder and waterer in the background.
We feared the chicken that died was Cassys chicken, but it felt too big. So, I looked for a bit while praying that I find him or that he will show up in the morning if I couldn’t.
This morning I pulled the cage outside for Cassy to assess, and check out the chickens. One of her white hens has a pretty bad broken leg. BUT, the black rooster heard his flock and came right up to the cage.
So, we have 1 injured chicken, 1 brokenhearted little girl, and a wrecked coop.
