🌴❄️ Post-Freeze Landscape Update | Vero Beach & Treasure Coast ❄️🌴
Don’t panic — delayed freeze damage is normal. Strong roots = strong trees & hedges. Call us for an assessment. 772-532-8097
After several freezing nights followed by temps in the 80s (with low 40s returning), many landscapes are showing stress 2–6 weeks later.
⸻
🌿 Clusia & Tropical Hedges
(Clusia, Seagrape, Hibiscus, Ixora)
You may see browning, leaf drop, or crispy foliage — this doesn’t always mean the plant is dead. Roots are often still alive. Practice the scratch test from outer branches towards trunk to determine what is dead.
What to do now:
✔ Don’t hard prune yet
✔ Water lightly & consistently
✔ Wait for stable warmth before pruning
❌ Avoid heavy fertilizing until new growth appears
⸻
🌴 Palms to Watch Closely
Foxtail • Christmas • Coconut • Royal
Cold stress may cause burnt fronds, weak spear growth, and nutrient deficiencies. Only remove DEAD. Interior Petiole may still be green and still has nutrients. Don’t remove the nutrients with an already stressed plant.
Fertilizing:
✔ Use slow-release palm fertilizer once warm weather stabilizes
✔ Include Potassium, Magnesium & Manganese
🚫 Avoid high nitrogen right after a freeze
⸻
💧 Watering Matters
✔ Deep water 1–2x per week if rainfall is limited
✔ Especially important during warm days after cold nights
❌ Don’t overwater or leave soil saturated
⸻
✂️ Pruning After a Freeze
• Remove only fully dead, brittle material
• Leave anything green
• Over-pruning too early can delay recovery
⸻
📞 Call Integrity Tree Vero if you see:
• No new growth after weeks of warmth
• Soft or collapsing palm spears
• Ongoing yellowing or canopy thinning
