“Winter Alert: Simple Steps to Avoid Frozen Pipes in Florida!”

***Inside the house***
-Let faucets drip (especially on exterior walls.) A slow drip keeps water moving so it doesn't freeze.
-Open cabinet doors under sinks to let warm air reach the pipes.
-Keep the heat on - don't shut it off overnight, even if it feels unnecessary.

***Outside & exposed plumbing***
-Cover outdoor faucets (hose bibbs) with foam covers or even towels + plastic in a pinch.
-Disconnect and drain garden hoses.
-Wrap exposed pipes (garage, attic, crawl space) with foam pipe insulation.
-If you have PVC outside, protect it - PVC is especially brittle in freezing temps.

***When temps are only freezing for a few hours***
-Dripping faucets + faucet covers are usually enough.
-Full pipe wrapping is best if temps stay below 32°F for several hours.

***Florida-specific tips***
-Pool equipment: Run the pool pump overnight if temps drop near freezing (moving water = safer)
-Irrigation systems: Turn them off and drain if possible.
-Well systems: Cover the pressure tank and exposed piping.

***If a pipe does freeze***
-Turn off the main water immediately
-Warm the pipe slowly (No Open Flames)
