HOW WE CONDITION FRESH MINT FOR OUR ARRANGEMENTS

Mint is one of our favorite garden fillers. It adds beautiful texture, movement, fragrance, and that fresh-from-the-garden feeling to bouquets and arrangements. But mint can wilt quickly if it isn’t conditioned properly after harvest.

One of the techniques we use is called searing.

After harvesting, we trim the stems and briefly place the cut ends into hot water. This helps seal the stem, reduces excessive moisture loss, and prepares the stems for hydration. We then transfer the mint into clean cold water, allowing it to drink deeply and recover before it is used in arrangements.

This extra step helps improve vase life and keeps the foliage looking fresh and vibrant for longer.

Conditioning flowers and foliage is one of those behind-the-scenes florist techniques that most people never see, but it makes a big difference in the quality of the final arrangement.
