We have bare root serviceberry seedlings for sale! Plant these native trees now for a delicious harvest of berries that your family, native pollinators, and the birds will thank you for.

Serviceberries taste like a cross between a blueberry and a cherry to me. They are sweet and delicious! I eat so many while I am picking them. The seeds also taste like almonds.

We harvested these berries around Ga’sgöhsagöh (Rochester, NY). While we were harvesting, all the native birds were eating from the tree tops. We also saw signs of geese eating the berries from off the ground. They are delicious fresh, frozen, dried, and in pie.

Many Original Peoples across Turtle Island (N. America) have longstanding relationships with this beautiful plant relative. Our goal is to spread these trees far and wide, so that everyone will have access to their delicious fruit once more. If you plant one of our seedlings, we will happily buy back seed from you in the future when they start bearing.

Order these serviceberry trees from our website today! And please do check out all the delicious native and non-invasive food plants we are offering at https://ammasforestgardens.com

First year in Lebanon, first CSA ! 🌱🥲

Join us at the farm, and literally help us to build the foundation needed to continue setting up the infrastructure for this beautiful place. So far, we’ve been scrappy to the max — working hard, paying out of pocket, and now we’ve got gorgeous food lined up for the season ahead. And we need help and support to keep this sustainable, and available locally! For us, we always want to keep our CSA smaller and to focus on prioritizing those that have invested in us for the season.

We’ve teamed up with other pick-up locations in the area to make it easier for anyone who can’t travel out to Lebanon every Thursday. Thank you to those locations — and a Syracuse CSA member for offering their porch as a centralized pick-up space. So choose what is best for you both on size and pick-up.

We’re planning some very DIY events for our CSA on farm — open fire and meal, food pop-ups(?) and a chance to get know some other amazing growers, nurseries ( ) and other food producers right by us! Truly some are right down the road.

Anywho, we don’t want to make this post too long. But everything is live on the website, including a CSA FAQ’s page. If you have any questions — message us on here or send us an email at [email protected] 🌿

Thank you, love ya! Let’s look back at this as the start to hopefully a long time of growing and enjoying food together.

This past weekend we had the pleasure of taking a weaving class with an expert weaver, Kathryn Wojciechowski, who runs the Old School Wool and Weaving Center - The Journey. The center is located in South Otselic, New York (Oneida Territory).

When we arrived, Kathryn welcomed us warmly and offered us context on the lineage of her practice, history, and how she has been able to restore multiple antique looms, countless spinning wheels, and over 90 sewing machines (some foot powered). The center she created is one of three serious hand weaving institutions in the Northeast.

Kathryn explained to us that her goal is to decentralize textile production as a cottage industry across the continent. We share her goals! We envision communities across the Eastern Forests cultivating natural fibrers to process, spin, and weave local, exploitation-free, high quality clothing again.

When I first sat down at the 250+ year loom, I was astonished at how comforting the wood felt. I started weaving and made a few mistakes. Kathryn gently corrected me and helped me learn how to adjust. She showed us the anatomy of her looms and gave pointers on how to work with them. One thing she said really struck me, "It isn't the tool, it is the weaver who makes a quality fabric."

The wood felt angelic on my hands. As I got into the rhythm of weaving I felt my mind and body healing. The movement uses both sides of the body and a repeating pattern. The loom is designed to capture the soul of the weaver and incorporates some strands of one's mind into the fabric, while soothing the parts that may be unhealed. As you see the fabric coming together, you feel a connection to prior weavers who sat on the same loom. You feel confidence that these fabrics will warm you and your family. I reflected on how sacred work can be if we change our relationship to it and design spaces that are human oriented (thank you to so many of our teachers for reminding us). I think we need a set of human-oriented looms in every community.

Kathryn has been working tirelessly for multiple decades to gather the information, infrastructure, and people to make these dreams a reality. We very much look forward to collaborating with her in the future to grow flax, spin all kinds of fibers, weave, fix up antique looms, and teach classes to make these practices widely accessible again, insha'Allah. Thank you Kathryn!

These past two days have been so much fun! Tadhg and Aamir are a pleasure and absorbing knowledge and experience like sponges. We went from weaving dish towels to rags and spinning wool. A lot of well spent time and I've hopefully created weavers and spinners.

We've spent the last few years establishing multiple food forests, engaging in ecological restoration, and gathering seeds.

While we are growing a large variety of plants, we have committed to never selling certain plant relatives to honor the gift of seeds trusted friends have offered us. For example, we will never sell the ceremonial to***co pictured here. If you would like to help us grow these plants to share with others, reach out to us.

We hope that with these plant relatives you will be able to provide some of your own food and medicine and leave a more abundant landscape for future generations. Lots of love from us to you!
