Using rocks in landscaping especially around foundations and fences for drainage helps prevent water from gathering. Not only does gravel ensure water flow moves quickly through the area, but it also prevents plants within the bed from receiving too much water and drowning.
It also provides beautiful contrast with your plants and helps show them off beautifully😍

Huacachina is a village built around a small oasis and surrounded by sand dunes in southwestern Peru. It is about five kilometers from the city of Ica in the Ica District of Ica Province.The oasis was introduced as a feature on the back of the 50 nuevo sol note in 1991. Huacachina has a permanent population of around 100 people, although it hosts many tens of thousands of tourists each year.

Steps to Design a Water Smart Landscape:

1. Use Native Plants from Your Region – Using regionally appropriate plants that are native and have relatively low-water requirements means you will use far less water.
2. Choose Low Water Using Plants – Even if you do not choose native plants, be sure to choose plants that require less water overall. This will help you save money and time watering.
3. Install an Irrigation System – In the United States we waste millions of gallons of water by sprinkling our lawns and garden beds during garden season. Drip irrigation, specifically, wastes less water and is more efficient at placing water at the base of the plants without heavy evaporation. By investing in an irrigation system, it might cost more up front, but the homeowner will save a lot of time and money in the long run.
4. Group Plants Together According to Water Needs – It becomes easier to manage the water in a garden if you group all the water-loving plants in a single bed, all the xeric or drought tolerant plants in another bed, all the medium-water plants in another bed, and so on. This way you spend less time running from bed-to-bed providing individualized time for special plant needs and more time relaxing.
5. Consider installing turf over natural grass, it migh also be a bigger upfront cost, but it saves big on your water and maintenance cost, and doesn't wear out with weather change.
