Wow! We have been completely overwhelmed by the love and support you are all showing Pioneer. It has been an emotional few days.

We're going to close for the day tomorrow (Sunday) to rearrange the store and get ready to sell display items, furniture, etc.

We'll open again at 9am Monday. There's still a bit of merchandise left, and if you're interested, you can get tables, chairs, crates, etc.

Thanks for all of your stories, your gifts, your smiles. We're getting through it, but boy, it's not easy.

See you Monday.

P.S. Don't forget to visit Cherokee Rose Embroidery a few doors down. They are closing too, and are selling all of their merchandise.

In the fall of 2013, we made the huge decision to buy Pioneer Garden and Feed.

In April of 2015, we signed the papers and changed our lives.

After years of triumphs and struggles, through countless hours of dedication and backbreaking labor, through laughter and tears…we have made the decision to close. This choice was not made lightly, we know how much Villa Park counts on us for service with a smile.

The past few years have been difficult for the entire world, and Pioneer did not escape those challenging times. Rising costs, supply chain problems, and big box (and online) store competition led us to this very difficult decision.

We are so grateful to our staff for their hard work and cheer. We especially want to thank Maggie Krott and Scott Rathbun, who we have consistently counted on since we bought the store. And Bill Karges, who has been a fixture at Pioneer for almost 50 years. We could not have done it without them.

Mostly we are thankful for the customers that accepted us into their families and have been loyal to Pioneer. We have made memories that we will look back at for the rest of our lives.

We’ll be selling any remaining inventory over the next few weeks, and everything in the store will be 50% off. Please stop by and pick up something for you to remember Pioneer Garden & Feed. It has been an honor to serve you.

Before you decide to use an insecticide—find out the culprit. Here you see swallowtail caterpillars eating a dill plant. Sometimes it’s ok to sacrifice a plant or two for beautiful butterflies and other pollinators.
