School safety is not defined by a single entrance, system, or technology. It is designed in layers.

From the campus perimeter to the classroom, each layer plays a role in creating a safer learning environment. That starts with understanding potential risks and continues through thoughtful site planning, controlled access, clear visibility, monitoring, communication, and emergency procedures.

As Principal Steve Bull explains, the key is how those layers work together. Primary, secondary, and tertiary entrances each serve a different purpose. Technology can strengthen security, but policies, training, and the people operating those systems are just as important.

For architects and school leaders, the goal is not to add security as an afterthought. It is to consider safety from the beginning and integrate it into an environment that still feels welcoming, functional, and focused on learning.

Back to school is more than the beginning of a new school year. It’s a fresh start in the spaces where students learn, connect, create, and grow.

From classrooms and collaboration spaces to performing arts and athletics, each space plays a different role in the student experience, creating opportunities to discover new interests, build confidence, form connections, and learn in new ways.

As students and educators return to campus, we’re proud to look back at some of the learning environments our team has helped bring to life and the experiences they were designed to support.

Breaking ground on the next chapter for Riverside Church.

After more than a century of serving the Fort Myers community and more than 10 years of planning for this moment, Riverside is bringing its “Dream Project” to life.

The 14,000-square-foot renovation and expansion will bring an upgraded lobby and auditorium, new classrooms and children’s spaces, and enhanced outdoor gathering areas designed to support worship, learning, connection, and community.

As shared at the groundbreaking, the heart of the project is creating space for the people of this community, today and for generations to come.

We’re grateful to be part of a vision years in the making and excited to see it come to life.

Specialized women’s care requires a thoughtful approach, making the environment where that care happens an important part of the experience.

For Naples Comprehensive Health - NCH’s GYN/Oncology Clinic in Naples, Studio+ transformed 6,900 square feet within the existing ProScan Women’s Imaging building into a space designed around the needs of women and their care teams.

From eight exam rooms and a procedure room to consultation spaces, nurse education offices, and clinical workstations, each part of the clinic was thoughtfully planned to support privacy, and comfort throughout the care experience.

By reimagining the existing healthcare space around the needs of patients and care teams, the project provides NCH with a more connected environment for delivering specialized care to women in Southwest Florida.

What should be considered when creating spaces specifically for women’s healthcare?

No two days in design look quite the same, and that’s part of what makes the work so dynamic.

Ideas are shared, challenged, refined, and carried forward through conversations with our teams. Throughout the day, we might be comparing materials, working through ideas, or walking a jobsite as the design takes shape.

Different projects bring different questions, conversations, and decisions. It’s all part of the work that happens every day to move an idea closer to reality.

to the project that started our healthcare journey.

Health City Cayman Islands set the foundation for how we approach healthcare design today, solving complex challenges with thoughtful design and a shared commitment to the client’s vision.

Faced with establishing an entirely new health system on a remote island, the integrated team delivered a 107,000-square-foot cardiac and orthopedic hospital in just 21 months, and on budget.

The hospital was designed around an ambitious goal of making high-quality cardiac care more affordable and accessible. Thoughtful design and operational efficiencies helped support that mission while creating a model for delivering care differently.

Health City was our first step into healthcare and the beginning of an expertise that continues to shape our work today.

A major milestone for the future of heart and stroke care in Southwest Florida.

The R.M. Schulze Family Heart & Stroke Critical Care Center at Naples Comprehensive Health - NCH has officially topped out, marking significant progress toward a facility designed to transform how advanced cardiovascular and stroke care is delivered in the region.

Designed in association with CannonDesign, the new center will bring specialized care, advanced technology, clinical spaces, and patient-centered environments together in one connected facility on NCH’s downtown Naples campus.

Milestones like this reflect the coordination and shared vision it takes to move complex healthcare projects forward, from early planning and design through construction and ultimately, patient care.

We’re proud to be part of the team bringing NCH’s vision to life and helping create healthcare environments built to serve Southwest Florida for generations to come.
