Giving you a glimpse of our minds...
Evan and I sat down to redesign the laundry room wall in our barn. We decided there were some flaws in the original design, so we sat down a couple of nights ago to have another go at it.
What you see here is our progression of ideas. Like I said previously, every idea gets explored. The first rendition is on the left, leading to the final idea on the right.
As you can see, not a lot changed about the idea. We started with cabinets above the appliances with glass in the doors. It looked terrible, and we knew it.
The second was three horizontal doors that lift up. This looked better because of the odd numbers of doors and not square blocky-looking doors, but five-foot-long doors that lift up are not practical.
Then we thought of barn doors to go with the barn theme, but this looked like the British flag. š And it just didn't sit right.
So then we decided to forgo the doors and just do shelves, which was almost right. We just needed to change from stained to painted cabinets, and voila! Laundry room finished.
Now to turn the dream into reality! We'll keep you posted!
(What makes this design super special is that it has a hidden laundry chute. Directly above this is the kids' room, so Evan is going to build the laundry chute in their closet and have it dump into the lower shelf above the washer and dryer. The top two shelves will be shallower due to having a false-back, allowing room for the chute to be incognito behind them. Wire baskets will sit above the washer and dryer waiting to be filled with child-sized, dirty clothes. š)
