Someone said “There’s a difference between being a Christian because of your politics and having your politics shaped by your faith.” And I agree, I, too, “want my convictions to come from Christ, not from a campaign.”
But, that doesn’t mean I will excuse lying, cheating, corruption, greed, cruelty, abuse of power, or treating people as less worthy of dignity because of whose side they represent. I won’t defend dishonesty because it benefits my side, turn a blind eye to suffering because the people affected are different from me, or confuse political agendas with Christian values. My faith is not a free pass for any leader to be cruel, and no political party gets to decide which of my convictions I’m willing to abandon for the sake of power.
Do I agree with everyone’s life choices? No. But I believe in human dignity, personal autonomy, and personal responsibility. I believe people can make choices I wouldn’t make for myself without needing me to police their lives. I believe in loving my neighbor, showing compassion, and treating others the way I want to be treated. Those aren’t just nice ideas. They’re the ACTUAL teachings of Jesus, and they should MATTER MORE than my personal opinions about how someone else lives.
As 1 Thessalonians 4:11 says, “make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business.” Maybe we’d all be better off spending less time judging other people’s lives and more time practicing what Jesus actually taught us. 💛 says so 💙
