After 50 years of marriage, my wife has instilled in me the importance of being efficient. While traveling between job sites, my usual lunch is an Ensure, two granola bars, and an apple.
I generally do not give money to people asking for help; instead, I prefer to offer something practical. On this occasion, rather than eat in front of someone, I offered the gentleman an Ensure. He thanked me, remarked that it was “good for you,” and opened it immediately.
I asked if he was familiar with the Institute for Human Services (IHS). He was and mentioned a social worker he works with.
Earlier this month, I discovered Aloha United Way 211, which I found to be an excellent resource. 💚
