Quick heating tips for the up coming cold air moving into the area.

Homes are desiged for about 25-29 degrees minimum outdoor temps and the same goes for the heating systems per the codes

Heat pumps are designed to pull heat from the air and move it inside the home. The colder the outdoor air the more the system will struggle and this is normal. Below 28-25 degrees most heat pumps struggle. Again this normal. Don’t panic

Hyper heat pump systems are usually designed to maintain 100% full heating capacity down to 5 to -5 outdoor temps and should be fine in these temps. These systems are designed for up north where the temps in winter regularly drop into teens and single digits.

80% non condensing furnaces (metal flue pipe) should be fine in these temps if sized correctly. They may struggle a little to maintain heat in the cold nights when temps start heating the teens and that is due more to the structure and heating system being in temps below the minimum design temps but they should keep your home warm.

90% condensing furnaces (pvc flue pipe) should be fine as well but can struggle due to the heating system and structure being below the minimum design temps as well. Condensing furnaces generate liquid water (condensation) in heating modes and the drains can freeze causing the system to shut down. If this happens try to remove the ice from the drains and heat the drain line back up so the water can flow.

Use your vented gas logs to help heat the home if the heating system is struggling. Make sure to have working co detectors installed. Lowe’s and other paces carrier them. Put batteries in the co detectors so they will function if the power goes out. Co2 detectors (smoke detectors) are located in the ceiling. Co detectors are located down low and usually are plugged into outlets. Homes come with co2 detectors but not co detectors always.

Drip your water lines slightly to keep water moving through the line to help keep the lines from freezing.

If you’re having heating issues or gas log issues we can come fix the issues as well. Fully licensed and insured HVAC company. 919-446-1644

We will not have trucks on the road in the ice due to safety concerns for our employees and others on the road but will resume normal operations once the roads are safe to drive on.

Stay warm and stay safe everyone

🚨 $14,000–$20,000 for just a furnace? That’s a crazy amount of money. 🚨

We recently saw a quote from a homeowner who was told it would cost between $14,000 and $20,000 for a furnace only. No AC. No coil. Just the furnace.

For comparison:

Our Carrier single-stage furnace is typically $5,000–$6,000 installed

Our Carrier two-stage furnace is typically $6,000–$7,500 installed

That’s a massive difference, and it’s exactly why second opinions matter.

We always encourage homeowners to get multiple quotes and ask questions. HVAC is a big investment, and you deserve to understand what you’re paying for and why. High prices don’t automatically mean better equipment or better work.

There are still honest companies in this industry who believe in fair pricing and transparent recommendations. That’s how we’ve built our business.

If a quote feels too high or just doesn’t sit right, trust your instincts and get another opinion.
We’re happy to take a look and give you an honest, straightforward answer.

❄️ Cold nights exposing your heat pump’s limits? There’s a reason.

Most standard heat pumps in North Carolina rely on electric backup heat once temperatures drop into the 30s — which drives up energy bills and still may not keep your home comfortable.

Hyper Heat Pumps are different.

✅ 100% heat output at 0°F
✅ Up to 85% heat output at -15°F
âś… No electric auxiliary heat needed
âś… Lower operating costs in cold weather

They’re built to handle extreme cold — not just “typical” winter nights.

If your system struggles on cold nights, it could mean:

Your system wasn’t designed for those temperatures

There’s an issue with sizing or installation

Or it may be time for newer technology

Delta T NC is one of the few HVAC companies in the Southeast certified to install Hyper Heat systems, ensuring proper design, sizing, and performance.

❄️ Do heat pumps work in extreme cold?

The real answer: sometimes — and sometimes not.

In North Carolina, most heat pumps work great until temperatures drop into the teens. Older systems, poor installs, or undersized units can struggle — which is why many homes need a backup heat source.

Not sure if your system is set up for cold snaps? A quick check now can save you from a cold night later. Give Delta T NC a call for an assessment. 919-446-1644
