Hoar Frost is a Warning Sign, Where Frozen Pipes can become an emergency.

Hoar frost indicates the beginning stages of freezing where you will notice in your drain lines at your toilet bowl water level drops when you use the washer and/or gurgling in the drain lines when you flush almost mimicking a clog. That usually has to do with vent stack size and height or other exposed drain lines out side. For water lines you will notice sputtering water pressure and/or low water pressure. You can prevent futher freezing by dripping your faucets, opening cabinets under sinks (safely not exposing harmful chemicals to pets, children or elderly with memory loss) and adding a space heater to the room or space that pipes are exposed to frigid temperature.
If you need help with determining the area for potential freeze up you can call us to help you take further preventable measures.

While a "frozen pipe" typically means the water inside has turned to ice, obstructing flow and you get absolutely no water at all. If this happens immediately shut off the water main source and allow the pipes to thaw without the pressure behind. Open faucets to a trickle (even if you have no water pressure) so that once the ice melts the pressure in those pipes from the melted water has somewhere to go instead of bursting the pipe. Do not leave this unattended, especially if you have slow draining sinks or tubs in order to prevent another disaster. There is faster ways of thawing pipes is you cant wait, however, seek a professional for assistance not every method online works for every household.

NEVER USE OPEN FLAME!

If you cannot locate the frozen section or are unable to thaw it safely, contact a licensed plumber immediately.

If the pipe does burst, please call us and we can repair it before you turn the waterlines back on causing more damage to your home.

Both can be a nuisance but preventable.

Reminder with these low low temps and wind make sure your fuel for heat is sufficient, your thermostats are working with sufficient power and/or batteries are changed, you have enough wood as a back up and drip your faucets as long as your drains are clear and wont cause fixtures to overflow creating more issues. Open cabinets with pipes under them so that heat gets in there to keep them from freezing but keep chemicals that you normally keep in cabinets out of reach of pets and children. Ideally 55 degrees is the lowest your thermostats should be if you are away and shut off water to the whole house incase you do have a burst line you minimize the damage.

Pictures Below is of one of the many toilets in this house freezing up due outdated thermostat quit working.

Stay safe and God Bless. We are here if you need us. Monday-Friday 7am-4pm by appointment. First come first serve.
