Winter weather like we are currently experiencing is hard on foundations primarily due to frost heave. Frost heave is a process where freezing, moist soil expands and exerts tremendous pressure on concrete, causing cracks and structural shifts. The cycle of water freezing and thawing repeatedly throughout winter weakens, moves, and damages concrete, block, and stone basement walls, and footings.

This week we’re alerting all homeowners. Those small cracks that may have never leaked may now start to leak due to the pressure put on your foundation during this weather. Be on the lookout for existing cracks that did not leak but may now start leaking and potentially new cracks developing.

Through the thaw be on the lookout for hydrostatic pressure pushing moisture into your home where the wall meets the floor.

This can be hard to detect in a finished basement. Moist carpet and water marks on your baseboards are a sure sign of a water intrusion issue.

Don’t let it get old because it will result in mold.

It’s 2026 let’s get that basement fixed!
Today we are removing an existing above floor waterproofing system that has failed and installing a new underground system that will relieve the hydrostatic pressure and keep this basement dry.
We found mold behind the water channel on this above floor system. That’s due to the system not having proper fall to the sump pit and water sitting stagnant behind the channel.
This customer will definitely notice a difference in the air quality once we get all the bad removed.
