Took on a very large deck project. This was a renovation of an aging deck. Took everything out down to the existing floor joists, replaced with all new posts and did a lot of modifications on joists and rebuilt it all using composite decking and aluminum rails from Carlson Building Supplies

Sometimes us remodelers get to dabble in what’s called “new construction”. The cool thing about it is that you get to make all the correct decisions up front so there is no need for remodeling later. This was a new garage I just finished up for a fantastic client of mine.

Loft was only held up by 5 nails 1/4” in diameter across an ~18ft span! And only using 2x6 for joists across a 12ft span...

Loft was only held up by 5 nails 1/4” in diameter across an ~18ft span! And only using 2x6 for joists across a 12ft span. Crazy! For this project we pulled the entire loft and made a proper ledger and used 2x8 with blocking instead for joists. Rock solid, no more sag or bounce anymore. Sorry, didn’t get a before or after pic.
