Locksmithing is a profession that has been around for thousands of years. The earliest locks were believed to have been invented in ancient Egypt and Babylon around 4,000 years ago. These were simple wooden pin locks that required a key to lift the pins and allow the lock to be opened.
As locks became more sophisticated, so did the locksmiths who made them. In medieval Europe, locksmiths were highly respected craftsmen who created intricate locks and keys for castles and cathedrals. They were also responsible for maintaining the security of towns and cities, and would often work alongside blacksmiths and metalworkers to create the complex mechanisms needed for these locks.
