Hey 👋 I’m Ozzie, and I’m the founder of Green Thumb of Oz. You might be thinking I grew up gardening. Don’t you? Truth is, I watched my grandparents garden and once in a blue moon help them out. I was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico 🇵🇷, but grew up in the suburbs of Tampa (Riverview), Florida 🌞. Where one would expect more people to grow food because it’s subtropical climate, and growing your own food food isn’t something I encountered in my community unless it was a community garden.
I went to college and obtained my degree in Agronomy. The science of crop production, soil management, and water conservation. There I had internships abroad at farms, worked hand in hand with Leon County Extensions and even had my own 40 x 40 plot in the oldest garden in the county (over 100 years old). After meeting farmers & gardeners, I realized I was so detached from the reality of how food grows. Now, it occupies my so much of my mental space.
Now, I help people start and mai rain their gardens through organic & natural practices. If you’ve thought to yourself, I’d love to grow a garden but I just don’t know where to start. Or maybe, you’ve thought, “I don’t have a green thumb, and might feel overwhelmed.” I’m here to tell you something. If a boy from Puerto Rico who grew up in the sandy soils of Florida from “lawn to garden” to growing my own food in a tiny space in the backyard, you can do absolutely anything.
It starts with an idea 💡, and soil. I’m here for you every step of the way. I hope that this little corner of the internet inspires you to take one step towards growing some of your own food. It’ll be the most transformative event you ever do.
Shout out to , as they were the first individuals to introduce me the terms in gardening that have changed my life me example is Mycellium. They might not remember me, but, I appreciate you two and the time I spend with you during my time in Tallahassee.
