IT’S CHARCUTERIE SEASON🧀🪵
This past week, I’ve been curating sample boards for our upcoming Roots and Rhetoric event! Our goal? To spotlight some of the amazing local offerings from DMV farmers—all while keeping things plant-based. And what better way to do that than with a beautifully crafted charcuterie board? It’s the perfect way to showcase seasonal ingredients and engage with others over delicious bites.

For this test board, I’m loving the way the grapes add a vibrant pop. I’m thinking a sweet jam or spread is a must, and I definitely want to include my go-to rosemary fig crisps. I’ll also be putting together a nut-free option for those with allergies 🤔. What fall-inspired ingredients would you like to see on the board?

If you’re excited to join us at Roots and Rhetoric in a couple of weeks—where you can sample locally sourced bites and engage in meaningful conversations with local farmers—drop a ROOTS in the comments below!👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾

IT’S TIME TO SPRING FORWARD💐/ The season of new beginnings is here. Today is the day you put yourself out there and water the intentions that you made in the New Year. One of the things people tell me all the time is how much they want to grow their own food, but they never do. Why? Because of a lack of convection, you got to want it bad enough. Figure out your why and lean into action. But know that you don’t have to go on your journey alone. There’s always someone who will see your vision but you got to put yourself out there first. That’s why I’m here to help you unlock your potential in the land.

One month from today I look forward to launching a special coaching program for those of you who have the mentality that this year will be the last year you say next year. This year you take your trowel and cultivator ( the little claw thing) in hand and dig your way to:

Better access to fresh foods
Growing despite lack of space or lighting
Giving back to the community and building relationships
Reclaiming your ancestral connection to the land

If this sounds like you, comment below "Grow by Any Means". I look forward to seeing you on the other side as we continue into this season of new growth and abundance.

LIFE IS SHORT AND THE WORD IS WIDE/ I set this picture as my wallpaper in my phone to remind me to keep traveling and keep exploring. Hoping that one day I’ll look and it and get bored so I can change my wallpaper to the next National Park I visit. Going to the Grand Canyon last year was just one of those experiences that reminds me of how insignificant my life can be in the grand scheme of things. It’s humbling and also inspiring. I only got one shot at this thing called life, better make it good.

What’s one thing you’re looking to do to get out of your comfort zone this year? What new challenges and new places will you explore?

I’VE BEEN REFLECTING ON THE FUTURE OF THIS PLAFORM🪞/ My mission with this space I’ve built over the last 4 years has and always will be to connect the African Diaspora back to the land. The ex*****on of that idea has always taken many different forms. It’s started off with just teaching people how to grow food in small space, but I’m starting to realize that’s only part of the puzzle. The art of preparing the foods we grow and using that energy we consume to participate in nature based activities is equally as important to me.

This is why moving forward I will transitioning the brand under my personal name moving forward. Everything form the profile picture to username will change. I understand that this will be confusing for some people, but in order to grow and evolve for what I have in mind for the future this is an important step for me.

I will still be posting garden content. I will still be doing The Afro Beets Podcast. And I will still being the goofball y’all know and love. This platform is only but an extension of my purpose in life not the purpose itself.

I just wanted to thank everyone who has been supporting me on this journey. I feel that because of this platform I’ve been able to learn just as much about myself as I have y’all. I hope you continue to rock with me through this transition✌🏾

What do you get when you bring some of the DMV's finest in food, agriculture, and wellness under one roof? How about a dope curated experience of educational workshops, collective movement/ meditation, and musical performances just to name a few? Well, that's the true spirit of the Urban Naturalite Fest, it's all about bridging the gap between city and nature dwellings.

This will be my second time attending this event since its beginnings last year. And man did we have a time last year. The event brought so many amazing creatives, healers, and educators all under one roof. Some of my favorite highlights last year were picking up some homemade horchata ( it never made it home) and getting educated on how to develop different tea, tinctures, and wellness products for the plants I find in my home and garden.

Don't miss out on this fantastic community event if you're in the DMV area this Sunday. Get your tickets before they run out. The theme, by the way, is GREEN🍀, make sure to come and put on your best nature impression. Link in the bio🔗

CILANTRO AIN’T GOING TO BE HERE FOR LONG ⏱🥵/ The most frustrating think about cilantro something is growing it in the summer. If you look at many of the fresh dishes you eat during the summer many will be topped off with the stuff, only problem is that it doesn’t like heat. A few things you can do to prevent this is 1) growing indoors, 2) planting cilantro next to plants that will provide safe and 3) succession planting.

How do you manage your herbs when your plants begin to bolt?
