Old Wood, New Use

Old Wood, New Use Full time RV’rs & Artisans sharing functional live edge wood creations as we travel the USA. I am happy to share my thoughtful, functional creations with you.

I've been working with wood for most of my life and I love creating things for people to enjoy. From bookcases to bottle openers, cutting boards to checker boards, I love making things! I try to utilize local, reclaimed wood when possible but I also use exotic woods and local hardwoods with live edge for variety and contrast. I can custom build many of my pieces to your specifications, please ask!

My wife and I moved to the Pacific Northwest 4 years ago to be near our Grandchildren. In addition to our family time, I also enjoy fly fishing, kayaking, hiking, playing the drums, and exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Thank you for your interest.

It’s been raining for days now so we’ve been watching movies & relaxing, but found a couple of cool antique stores. in Gettysburg is tucked away in the Outlet stores but worth the visit. Spent a rainy afternoon exploring Mt. Gretna, an artisan community, including where we had an excellent root beer float & hot fudge Sunday. Finally the rain stopped and we took a hike on the Lebanon Rail-to-Trail, where they used to have a narrow gauge passenger train. Lots of history in PA. Good to get outside and move; to see a deer, cardinal, wildflowers and so much green!

What a gorgeous location in Leesburg, VA at and their cider . Easy access off of Hwy 15, just a few miles and so beautiful and quiet! The facilities are a perfect event venue for weddings, anniversaries, or any special occasion. Buildings from 1908 have been renovated and modernized for the comfort of guests. We had a lovely tour and got to know the Hosts a bit. If you’re in the area, we highly recommend. Plus the cider rocks!

“Virginia is for Lovers” and history! We toured the Thomas Jefferson retreat or vacation home, Poplar Forest near Lynchburg. The octagon shape, simplicity of the design and size of only 2,200 sq. ft. make it quite unique; he was definitely a brilliant man and one before his time. He had slaves but treated them well, unlike so many others. Despite the rain, we went on to the “Old City Cemetery” where the black population (slaves) are buried along with a section for Confederate Soldiers. ❤️

When in south Florida……go to two National Parks in one day! Everglades & Biscayne have one thing in common; beautiful water! Otherwise, very different and diverse, especially at Everglades with its expanse swamps, mangroves, Magnolia groves & wildlife. We will need to go back (without JoJo) to both for more hiking, kayaking and snorkeling but glad we got to go! Plus we tried Gator “bites” which were tough and bland, but we tried them!🤣🤣🐊

Another bucket list concert last night & “The Boss” and his E Street Band did not disappoint. We counted 17 talented musicians with outstanding guitar, brass, drums & vocals. Such high energy for 3 straight hours with only breaks to share his heartfelt reasons for this tour and to honor those who have lost their lives due to the current regime and his goons. It felt like a revival, a movement of love, peace, acceptance and hope that the tides are changing for the better. Thousands of people together in a stadium clapping, cheering, singing, dancing and dreaming for our once great nation to be great again.

A few projects we made and took to the west coast as gifts. The Olive wood Charcuterie Board & Cheese utensils were a wedding gift for my brother & new sister-in-law; they loved the set, which turned out beautifully. Dolphin carvings & Intarsia wood working Chickadees were made for special friends and our Moms each got a bird. Rope baskets & trivets were hostess gifts, all well received. It truly is better to give than receive!
