ISTUDIO Architects We are passionate about forming thoughtful, artful, and sustainable communities through architecture

We recognize in all our work the long-term impact of design on local communities and the healthy functioning of their natural ecosystems. Recent projects include a waterfront solar home, a LEED-certified charter school, rehabilitation of a historic downtown office building, an eco-tourism center in West Africa, and city planning for the National Mall in Washington DC.

Student Internships play a critical role in design education. We’ve really enjoyed having Kendall Alexander intern with us as part of the Virginia Tech program. She’s a third year architecture student at the Virginia Tech School of Architecture who lives in Fredericksburg Virginia.

She plays the saxophone, her favorite movie is by , and she has 9 stitches in her head from being hit by a golf club.

We are thrilled to announce that the Bwindi Ecotourism Center has received a Special Mention in the Vision for Community category at the 2025 Architizer Visionary Awards! 🏆

This project serves as a sustainable gateway to Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas. The center integrates seamlessly with the local community, promoting eco-tourism and cultural heritage. Employing passive building and low-impact development strategies, it produces its own energy, manages waste and stormwater, and regenerates degraded habitats.

This recognition underscores our commitment to creating spaces that foster community engagement and environmental stewardship.
