The Veiled House's transformation by JKA is a testament to the synergy between a visionary client and imaginative design. We're thrilled to share the progress of the Whetzel Hollow project located in the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia. JKA designed this modern getaway with a deep connection to the natural world, selecting materials, textures, and colors reflective of the beautiful surroundings and setting. Potomac View - This weekend getaway rests atop a cliff overlooking the Potomac River. The home is an assembly of simple geometries that engage the surroundings while taking advantage of the views. The 'heart' of the home (i.e. kitchen/dining) is emphasized by cladding the exterior in corten steel. It and the living room structure pull apart to provide a patio with fireplace that is partially covered by the bedroom wing above. A CMU stair tower anchors the home to the site that also leads to a roof terrace with 360 degree views.

Our Veiled House project received a feature in ArchitectureDC. The 'veil' is made from salvaged screens of an old school building being torn down. The Client afforded us some license to be creative and we were happy to oblige.
