Before and After in Kenvil, Morris County, NJ.

This could have been a custom-size unit that would take 4 weeks at the factory to make. Customer would not accept a custom order due to both time and budget considerations.

We had to extend the foundation to fit a standard unit, and then cut and restore the patio stones. That was a few hundred dollars less than a custom unit, and we did it the next week with a unit we had in stock.

BEFORE and AFTER at a high-slope flat cellar door jobsite in Newark, NJ.

Gordon has a unique swivel-hinge that is best for high-slope flat units. We do prefer Steelway for other installs. The glazing is an industrial coating; it's not paint. It should at least double the life of the cellar door, and never need recoating.

This is the off-season, not too many people changing out their Bilco door in the middle of the winter. We don't go to Florida for 3 months and relax. We work. We can do other windows and doors, and other interior work in the cold season.

I do have a backlog of 3 cellar door installs, and typically 1 out of 4 days in the winter is warm enough to install. Just not this month, the cold is stubborn and unyielding. We worked a few days right before New Years, and made some vital income.

TRAP DOOR FOR SLAVES. This house (circa 1780 construction) is a few miles north of Easton, PA, and near the Delaware River. The house was part of "The Underground Railroad".

It has a secret room in the basement, accessible only via a hidden trap door in the floor. The "safe space" below was used by escaped slaves in the early to mid-1800's. The room is currently used for an oil tank, furnace, and hot water heater.

I signed a contract with the homeowner to change out the door for something not so heavy. The homeowner is elderly, and he has difficulty lifting the massive iron slab. He'll be keeping the old iron door, for historical preservation purposes. www.glazedcellardoors.com

I was approved as a dealer for Steelway Cellar Doors, and I have dealer pricing. Steelway is superior to Bilco, across the board. This recent Bilco O-series install in East Orange is probably the last Bilco I'll install.

Unless someone wants to pay more and get an inferior product, why would I take another Bilco order.
