Let's talk rim joist for a minute.

The rim joist (or band joist) is a critical component of the building envelope, located at the perimeter where floor joists meet the foundation. It supports load-bearing walls and provides lateral stability. Because it is a junction of many materials, it is a primary source of air leakage, energy loss, and moisture damage.

The photos here are a brand new home, less then 1 year old.

The joist was "spray foamed" with a one part foam and only at the back of the boxes. Some places had barely enough to cover the wood face. You will also see in the photos, none of the foam covered or sealed in the plate to the foundation, the most important part.

All this was removed and filled in with closed cell Spray foam.
