Deciduous trees’s leaves changing from green to the many fall colors is triggered by the longer nights. Weather can impact the brilliance, but it’s the shorter days and longer nights, that set the process in motion. Cells build up in the base of each leaf, slowing chlorophyll production which makes the green color we see all summer. As chlorophyll production slows and the green fades, we now see the yellows and golds which were in the leaf all along, but were masked by the green. These colors tend to be steady from year to year. The reds, purple and crimson colors are primarily produced after chlorophyll production slows. The more sun we have in the autumn the more brilliant these latter colors will be.

Amazingly warm day to be in the trees. Today we removed several trees that were leaning over a house, plus some pruning and cabling. Joe in the crane, Gable in the bucket, Ethan on the ground saw, Flanagan feeding the chipper, Zach running the mini-skid, and Drew in the canopy installing a cable.

It is hard to tell how heavy and how big trees are when they are still standing. If you’ve ever walked alongside a tree that has fallen, you learn quickly they’re much bigger than you think. When a tree goes down, the force and sheer amount of material can do a lot of damage - not just to other trees and buildings but to the soil and landscaping in their path as well.

Our team does everything possible to minimize this type of damage to our client’s properties. In this case, we are floating sections of removed material over the lawn toward the trucks so it can be taken offsite - avoiding any impact damage altogether. Whenever possible, we do everything we can to make it look like we were never there in the first place.

Merry Christmas to all. May your new year be happy.
