Many of you have heard us talk about the Ice Saints in the past. Well, the Ice Days are upon us! It is a good idea to wait to plant tender plants outside until these days are over. They have been very accurate. Of course, with our climate changing, it is still a good idea to watch the forecasts and have covers, just in case. Here is an explanation:
The Ice Saints (Eisheiligen) are a period of cold weather in mid-May associated with the feast days of Saints Mamertus, Pancras, Servatius, and Boniface (May 11-14) and "Cold Sophie" (May 15). This European folklore warns that these days often bring a final late-spring frost, advising gardeners to wait until after this period to plant tender crops.
