Our approach to architectural design involves a thorough examination of our clients' personal tastes and an active collaboration with them to enrich and bring to fruition their visions. Peter Halsey Cook is the owner and principal architect of the firm. As a descendant of the Cook, Halsey, and Ludlow families, Peter has roots that extend over 350 years deep in Hampton's history. Peter grew up in a
New Jersey suburb where he was deeply influenced by the shingle style architecture of the late 19th century that was prominent in my community. Further influence came through an apprenticeship in the Colonial Williamsburg Graphics Arts Department, where I developed a great appreciation for the architecture and gardens of Colonial America. From 1978 to 1980, my summers were spent first as a carpenter and then as a designer for Bridgehampton builder William G. Thompson, where I got my first taste of wood frame construction and design. I believe these summers were the greatest influence in my decision to pursue the field of architecture as a career. I gained infinite insight into the process, materials and methods of residential construction on the East End, and practical experience in the building of homes. My first foray into design involved the layout and design of a colonial inspitered 30-home subdivision with Mr. Thompson, that stand proud today as Bullhead Village in Bridgehampton.
