WHY is FALL a PERFECT time for PLANTING?

* Soil remains warm while nights are cooler which allows plants to establish a good root system.

* While foliage may begin to die back, roots continue to grow until ground freezes giving plants a hardy root system to over winter and a head start in spring.

* Fall planting gives new plants a cool growing season, followed by a winter rest, and a second, strong growing season in spring — before summer arrives. With some plants, that bonus fall season is almost like gaining a year.

* Cooler temperatures means less pests and weeds to compete with as well as less watering for you. Stop watering once temperatures reach 40 degrees.

* Jump start on your spring gardening when there is always so much to do.
