It's Wednesday, and time for the Bungalow Kitchen Project reveal. We've included a before picture, the floor plan, a rendering of what might be, and a few after photos. It turned out nice, and we hope that you think so too.

It's the Wednesday weekly Bungalow Kitchen Project update! The cabinets are set in place, and the marble and honed granite countertops are in. The 3x6 white subway tile backsplashes are being installed along with the handmade tile inlaid "rug". On the stove wall, to make for a higher quality finished installation, we tile the entire wall before the hood or the crown mouldings get installed. It's a little detail, but in the end, it's all about those little details. Tune in next Wednesday for the final reveal.

Bungalow Kitchen Project update. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! The custom cabinets are being installed. WooHoo! We had them delivered unfinished. The intent was to be mindful of the historic characteristics of this 1920's era home. A sprayed-on finish, to us, would feel too industrialized, so we chose to have them hand-painted by a very skillful team of expert painters. Next up, countertops and wall tile treatments.

Bungalow kitchen update. Making material finish selections for the marble countertop and for the island top. Selecting a contemporary version of a Bungalow style door/drawer pull that has various sizes that will work on the different door and drawer sizes. The new red Oak hardwood floor stain has been applied. Up next, cabinets! Merry Christmas.

Bungalow Kitchen Project update. Drywall is hung and taped ready for paint. Laying out the inlaid hand-made tile "rug". There were no cut tiles in this layout. The hardwood floors are being installed and stained. Stay tuned for cabinetry.

Bungalow kitchen progress. The new framing for the two new construction windows and their installation is completed, the outside trim and siding have been repaired for the new window location too. Because the house is nearly 100-years old, walls had to be furred out for the drywall to lay flat. With the original lath and plaster, this step wasn't necessary. The new exhaust vent for the range hood is installed and so are all the rough mechanicals. Insulation is in place. If you're wondering, all walls and the ceiling were insulated for dampening sound transmission from room to room. I wonder what's cooking for dinner in the frying pan?

Progress on the Bungalow kitchen project. Cabinets are gone (still getting service to the last minute on the wall hung sink though) and then gutting the space. No sledgehammers were used in the commission of this demo, that's only for HGTV. After an evaluation of the wood floors beneath 3-layers of vinyl and linoleum, all the flooring was taken down to the floor joists below and a plywood subfloor was installed. With the ceiling open, the second-floor joists were reinforced with another joist sistered onto each one. The layout for the island and the "tile rug" inlay is being evaluated. The next steps will be moving and resizing the windows, rough mechanicals, and insulation. Stay tuned!

Bungalow Kitchen Project. We're into the first seps of the demo phase. The chimney was removed to make more space in the kitchen and so was the ironing board cabinet. This wall will become the fridge wall, speed oven/microwave, and tons of much needed storage.

You've undoubtly noticed that we have been working on our page for Pekel Construction & Remodeling. Our updated cover photo shows a recently completed kitchen in a 1921 Craftsman style Bungalow. Over the next few weeks we'll share the journey of that project from the beginning to it's shiny ending starting with these before photos. (the "inlay" in the cabinets is wallpaper. Oh boy!)
