I’d say my two favorite features of Ruby Manor are the octagon stained glass window and the fireplace, for multiple reasons.
The stained glass window: Because it was my vision, a big personal accomplishment installing it myself, and it gives so much personality to that wall. Kyle had the idea to open up the entrance at the top of the stairs which gives the space even more of a presence.
The fireplace: Because I had no idea the beauty that was hiding underneath. Kyle did an amazing job removing the paint to reveal the original jade colored stone. He also got down to the exposed brick running through the center of the house.

Okay, time for the long awaited before and after photos. From when we bought the house over 3 years ago and what the rooms look like today. There’s still touch up work to be done, and it’s not perfect. There’s still plenty of renovation for the new owners. I just hope someone continues to give Ruby Manor the love she deserves.

We’re getting close to putting Ruby Manor back on the market. We took the letter we found in the wall, some original wallpaper scraps, and nails to the Waverly Historical Society. We figured that would be the best place for them.

Things have taken an unexpected turn at Ruby Manor. We’ve had some changes in our personal life, so our big elaborate dreams for this home have shifted into more pressing, realistic goals.

A contractor is currently working on getting the rooms we’ve demolished back into an operational state. Then the house will most likely be sold, but that depends on the selling price and the time it takes to sell.

There are a few projects we still hope to finish ourselves, just as a point of pride and satisfaction.

Good morning from Ruby Manor.

Since it’s been so long since we’ve posted, two in one day should make up for it.

This next success is thanks to our neighbor and his adult children. This large dead tree sits between both houses and would do a lot of damage to either one if it fell. It’s technically on his property, but we still offered to help pay because it scared us every winter. But surprisingly they informed us that they hired someone to take it down. Thank goodness for no more dead branches every windstorm and some peace of mind. We counted the rings and it appears to be about 67 years old.

As far as other progress, things are on hold. Financially we have had one blow after another, veterinarian bills, dentist bills, and now vehicle troubles. I (Kristy) started a new job and it’s pretty physically demanding, so then I don’t even want to do projects when I get home. So be patient with us and we try to be patient with ourselves. We’re in no hurry.

About this time last year I made a post about the back of the house, explaining that it would be a project for next (this) summer. We’ll, it did not get finished, but it’s had progress. The contractor we hired to tear down the old porch and put up a new deck was delayed about 3 months. Which meant that much longer until we could put up scaffolding. So…. Next year it is! At least we got a new deck, and some paint prep done and even a little red paint at the top. Gotta look for the positives, right?

The grass in our front yard has come in beautifully! We’ve even mowed it three times already. What a difference from when we first moved in!

I also repurposed the bricks from the chimney to make some flower boxes. I’m excited to get some bulbs planted for spring next year and then some perennials.

We still have a ton of bricks left. And now that I’ve got masonry on my resume I’ll have to think of another project.
