Some homes are decorated room by room. This one was designed as a single, continuous thought.

The wood tones in the great room ceiling reappear in the stair treads. The iron balusters echo the black hardware in the kitchen. Stone and marble aren't matched, they're related, the way materials in a well-loved home always are. The layout keeps the kitchen open to the living and dining spaces, so no one's ever cooking apart from the conversation.

This one was personal.

Before it was a project, it was home. This bedroom began with a single architectural anchor—a decision that set the rhythm for everything that followed.

Working with Jim McNeil and the Consulate Collection, we let the master bed become a reference point: grand at the headboard, quieter at the foot. That play of scale echoed throughout the house, a deliberate rhythm rather than a repeated formula.
The result reads differently to everyone who sees it—some notice French influence, others Italian, others something more modern. But what holds it together isn't a style.

It's proportion. Consistency. Restraint.

One of the first questions we ask has nothing to do with furniture. We ask about the kitchen at 7am on a Tuesday.

Not the dinner parties — the ordinary morning. The moment you walk in half-awake, reach for the coffee, wait for the kettle. What's in front of you in that moment? Where does your eye go? Does the room ask anything of you, or does it just let you stand there?

Most people have never thought about it, but their morning has.

The everyday sequence: Where the mug lives, what's within arm's reach, what you see before you've had your first sip… it all shapes how the kitchen feels three hundred and sixty five days a year. A counter that's always cluttered because there's nowhere else for things to go. A layout that makes you cross the room twice for the same task. A window that could've framed the morning light but doesn't. These things wear on you slowly, without ever announcing themselves.

Matching is the easy version of cohesion.

For a long time, good design was often mistaken for consistency. One wood tone. One finish. One metal. Everything carefully coordinated.

It works. But some of the most memorable rooms feel a little more layered than that.

In this kitchen, the island and cabinetry don't match. The finishes shift. The materials bring different histories and different weights into the room. Yet nothing feels out of place.

One of the first things we ask a new client has nothing to do with interiors. We ask about the drive home.

Not the commute — the last sixty seconds of it. The moment you turn onto your street, pull into the driveway, cut the engine. What do you feel in that moment? What do you see? What does your house say to you before you've even touched the door handle?

Most people have never thought about it. But their body has.

The arrival sequence — the approach, the entry, the first thing your eye lands on when you walk in — shapes how the home feels from the moment you arrive. A front door that's hard to find. An entry that offers no moment of arrival. A hallway that immediately pushes you somewhere before you've had a chance to land. The mirror catches your eye immediately. The deep violet glass of the vessel sink does the same. They're confident choices, and neither one apologizes for it.

What keeps the room feeling balanced is everything surrounding them. The soft pattern of the wallcovering. The restraint of the marble. The simplicity of the lighting and cabinetry.
