It can be dangerous doing some math, I mean, we are just roofers, buuuuutttt.

🏠 Is a metal roof actually worth it? We ran the numbers — here’s what we found.
Most homeowners see the price tag and stop there.

Metal roof = $28,000. Shingles = $16,000. “Easy choice,” right?
Not so fast.

If your insurance has a 3% deductible on a $400K home, one wind or hail claim costs you $12,000 out of pocket. That’s the same $12,000 gap between metal and shingles.

👉 One storm. That’s all it takes to break even.
And if you’re in a state that sees hail or high winds regularly? Two or three claims over a decade means metal saves you $24,000–$36,000 MORE than it costs.
Add in the fact that shingles need replacing every storm or 7-15 years (metal lasts 30-50), and the long-term math is hard to ignore.
Not saying metal is right for everyone — but if you’re in a storm-prone area and planning to stay in your home, it’s worth a real conversation before your next roof replacement.
