In 1995, Mattel introduced the adorable Snacktime Cabbage Patch Kid with a working, battery-powered mouth that children could feed a variety of plastic imitation foods. However, the doll was prone to some disturbing malfunctions. In November of that year, a New York couple watched in horror as the hungry doll devoured their six-year-old daughter's hair all the way down to her ear before they were finally able to switch it off. The doll also failed to distinguish between food and fingers, which it would munch on like carrots. Mattel acted quickly by withdrawing the doll and vowing to pay up to $20 million in refunds, saying the company "doesn't want to see children hurt by a toy that was obviously meant to cause pleasure, not pain."

🐝 Bees play a vital role in pollination—knowing their types helps support biodiversity in your garden:

🌼 Social bees like bumblebees and honeybees live in colonies and pollinate a wide range of crops. They're especially active in cooler weather, making them dependable pollinators for early blooms.

🌸 Solitary bees such as mason, leafcutter, and carpenter bees don’t form hives. They’re efficient pollinators—some are up to 3x better than honeybees per visit—and less likely to sting.

🪵 Provide bee hotels or bundles of hollow stems to attract solitary bees, and grow diverse flowers to support both types all season long. Avoid pesticides to keep these hardworking pollinators safe
