Our horticulturist, Kevin VanderBerg, getting roses ready for shipping! Kevin is my lifesaver! He helps me take care of the nursery roses and the mother plants. With over 700 roses here and over an acre of gardens, we could both be in the gardens 8 hours a day, 7 days a week and still not be done. Thank you Kevin for all you do!

Just a little reminder....the david austin own root roses do very well in florida because they are descendants of old garden roses with a few exceptions. Most should be kept in pots unless they have a more aggressive root system as in the climbers. If its grafted on Dr Huey, even in a pot, it will be a struggle to keep the rose alive. For example, bathsheba comes in own root and Dr Huey. She can go right in the ground on own root. On dr huey she will struggle here and eventually die. If you live in other parts of the country, dr huey will do fine. Keep this in mind when ordering. On my website I specifically say whether a rose is own root, grafted on dr huey or grafted on fortuniana. Fortuniana will live in zones 7a and above and are the best rootstock for florida. In 7a and 7b, i would bury the graft and give the roots winter protection of extra mulch. If a customer in new Jersey orders roses on fortuniana, I will cancel the order and call the customer to explain that the fortuniana roses will die in the colder zones. Also fortuniana roots get way too big to live in a pot for more than 2 or 3 years. They should go in the ground. If you're planting an old garden rose, most can go in the ground on own root. Its best to always ask what rootstock is on the rose you are buying. I hope this helps explain.
