Another reason we love our neighbors Firehouse Pet Shop - Wenatchee / Station No.1! Thank you for taking the care of such an amazing landmark in Downtown!
We are SO excited to see the next phase of restoration happening on Wenatchee’s historic downtown clock. 🕰️
Today, Troy and his team from Community Glass carefully removed the clock faces so local artist Josie Rutherford can begin restoring them. After more than 100 years exposed to sun, wind, rain, and snow, the paint has faded and some of the lettering has slowly run over time. Honestly… not bad for a clock that has watched over downtown since 1920.
The plan is to have the restored clock faces, new glass, and a brand new finial installed this June.
One thing we hear all the time is:
“Wait… Firehouse owns the clock?!”
Most people assume it belongs to the city, but this clock has actually been lovingly cared for by a long line of private owners ever since Percy Pangborn brought it to Wenatchee over a century ago. We are incredibly honored to now be part of that history and responsibility.
There’s also a little-known story behind it.
When we purchased the building from the Ott family in 2014, we had no idea the clock came with it. We assumed it belonged to the city. Before signing the paperwork, Bill Ott pulled us aside and made one heartfelt request.
He said:
“Please promise me you’ll never sell the clock or let it leave Wenatchee.”
He explained that years earlier, the Disney organization had reportedly offered $120,000 for it. Tempting? Absolutely.
But today?
This clock is priceless.
It’s part of Wenatchee’s story. Part of downtown. Part of generations of memories.
And with these repairs and restoration work, our hope is that it will continue watching over Wenatchee for another 100 years. ❤️
