Iā€™ve been pretty bad at posting this year as so much has been going on. We were just about to announce that Colten, Augie, and I moved onto my familyā€™s farm to a spot next to my grandparentā€™s house a couple months ago. My parentā€™s house is on the acreage as well, so this is where I grew up. When we asked my Gram & Pawp if we could move there, I told them that thereā€™s no place like home on the farm. My pawp said I could come home.
On October 19, at 92 years old, my pawp unexpectedly had to go to the emergency room. He didnā€™t get to come home this time. Instead, he went onto his heavenly home, where I truly believe God had farmland just waiting to be harvested. This loss was foundational to our family soul. My grandparentā€™s legacy (kids & grandkids, with their spouses, great grandkids, and even great-great grandkids) includes over 50 people. Growing up on the farm, how much all of the family was aroundā€¦ was magical. With the help of God, my Pawp lived a life that was so beautiful and touched so many lives.
Living on the farm feels a little empty now without him, but as he used to say, we ā€œneed to make hay while the sun shinesā€ and keep on going.
I love you Pawp. Thank you for letting me come home šŸ’™ā¤ļø

Back in March, there was a new first for me! First time drilling and working with pocket holes! They werenā€™t all perfect, especially the first few. But by the end of the night, it was going pretty well! I donā€™t know what I was so worried about anymore. TRY ALL THE NEW THINGS & TOOLS! Progress over perfection!

Getting to the point in this section of the project where itā€™s all of the little things left to do.
āšœļø Touch up stain in certain areas
āšœļø Seal bannister (have to wait 8-10 hours to seal after stain, then 24 hours between coats of sealer šŸ˜­)
āšœļø One more coat of paint on spindles
āšœļø Touch up wall paint
Hopefully this will only take part of today and a couple hours after work this week!

Everything needs at least one more coat but itā€™s looking SOOOOOO GOOD! All that work feels totally worth it! Need to get that newel post done, but other than that, I love it!

Itā€™s just the first coat but OMG I LOVE IT! With the board & batten and dark wood stair treads, these spindles were born to be painted black!
Probably over 15 hours of sanding but it was worth it for this feeling of seeing the vision start coming to life!

Itā€™s been a while since Iā€™ve had a ā€œbrandingā€ post! Do I do my projects with these nails? Why yes I do. Do they get in the way? Not really. With sanding itā€™s been a decent experience. Didnā€™t lose one nail in last weekā€™s 15+ hour sanding excursion.
My nails are my one on the regular things. And my friend Chelsea RenƩ Artistry always does the absolute best job!
There are times when I have her do them shorter if Iā€™m doing a hand-intensive project like floors or sanding. Believe it or not, Iā€™ve had them longer than this.
Glad to be putting my heavy duty sanding tools down briefly while I paint these spindles though!
