West Bend Patrons Park

West Bend Patrons Park Patrons Park will be built on vacant land behind West Bend Community Memorial Library. He was inspired somewhat by Bookworm Gardens in Sheboygan, WI.

The idea for Patrons Park originated in spring of 2011, when Dave Krochalk, a former West Bend Community Memorial Library Board member, proposed using the empty space behind the library to create a park. The land at the corner of 7th Avenue and Walnut Street behind the library had been vacant and somewhat of an eyesore for more than 10 years. Library board members believed the space could be devel

oped into a wonderful community asset, a gathering space for library and other cultural events, a quiet rest spot, a beautiful outdoor reading area, a venue for horticultural learning opportunities, and more. The WBCML board decided to pursue the project and began develop building and landscaping plans. Former library board president Jim Fowler has also been a dedicated proponent for the park. In late summer 2012, the Library Park Fundraising Committee was developed. They named the project Patrons Park, honoring the library's history of providing exceptional user services, programs, and resources to its patrons and the community. Patrons Park will be part of the contemporary movement to make West Bend a more community oriented city and will become an integral component of the city's cultural district.
