Good morning!
We’re going through a bit of a dry spell here in the Midwest and want to talk watering today. One of the best gardening tips you'll ever get is to plan your new garden near a water source. Make sure you can run a hose to your garden site, so you don't have to lug water to it each time your plants get thirsty. The best way to tell if plants need watering is to push a finger an inch down into the soil (about one knuckle deep). If it's dry, it's time to water!

Weeds are nasty and relentless. It can be a pain to keep them under control but it is necessary. It is not just so your garden will look beautiful, but for the sake of your plants’ health. A w**d competes for the nutrients in the soil. It can also wrap around a plant and strangle it. If they get big enough they will shade the plant, robbing it of the sunlight it needs. So if you are going to have a successful garden, you need to control the w**ds.

Place eggshells around the bottoms of plants to add calcium to the soil – an added perk, the shells also discourage pests and small bugs. Plants in the species: Brassica oleracea are especially hungry for extra calcium, those are plants like broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, spinach, and more. To help the eggshells be absorbed more quickly into your garden – stick them into the blender and powderize them. Your garden will thank you.

Have a pile of ratty t-shirts lying around?

You can deter annoying, hungry pests like birds and rabbits by tying up strips of fabric cut from an old shirt. Placing a few rag shards on the end of poles can be a natural deterrent. The unpredictable movement will scare away bunnies and keep most birds at bay.
