Spring 2018 is just about here! Like everyone else, we are ready to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh blooms and grass greening up....However, Mother Nature is in charge at all times and she has been relentless the past couple weeks with rain. The snow we had through the winter had already created saturated soils coming into the Spring, so all this extra precipitation is not beneficial at all!! (Just ask the folks and businesses down by the river)..
I have recently been reminded again on why Organic Environments was founded. Over the years, I have grown an immense passion for helping rectify some of the common turfgrass/fertilizer industry recurring problems and steady downfall associated with those problems. The chemical side of lawn and landscape business is one of the most highly regulated facets of the entire industry. Strict licensing procedures for both technicians and operating businesses are in place. Audits are frequent and thorough. Ongoing commitment to continuing education and the ability to adapt to new rules and procedures is a must. However, with all of these protocols in place I am still amazed at how much abuse, neglect, poor judgement, and greed dominates the industry...
It has been raining (5"+) for over a week. Everything is flooded and the ground is at 100% saturation in most places. We had a break in the weather on Monday and Tuesday, but with much more rain certain for Wednesday and Thursday. I was so disappointed on Monday and Tuesday with the amount of companies (especially the corporate giants) that I saw out applying pre-emergent fertilizer and w**d control. I'm going to keep this simple and short: Those applications did nothing. Actually, all they did was wash into our groundwater and streams. Soil temperatures are not primed for this application aside from the water situation! For those who have already had their lawn treated, I am sorry on behalf of the industry. You wasted your money, flushed all the product intended for your lawn down the drain, and created an opportunity for these companies to come back in early summer and charge you for controlling crabgrass!! Truly a shame in so many ways... This is certainly not how things are done at Organic Environments and never will be. We are firm in our beliefs that "quality over quantity" wins every time. These companies that are out now are focused solely on profits and getting ahead. We remain focused on "revenue created by Organic Environments is just a byproduct of doing things the right way".
