Spring Growth Is already popping — Now’s the Time to Get Your Trees Ready

As we move out of the cold snaps and into those milder late‑February days, your trees are waking up fast. Once new growth starts, everything gets thicker, heavier, and harder to inspect — which is why this “almost spring” window is a good time to get ahead of any issues.

A quick look at your yard now can save you from surprises once the leaves come in.

A few things worth checking before spring growth kicks in:
- dead evergreens hiding, like this one.
- dead branches, that are not budding like the rest of the tree
- Branches that are already hanging low and will get heavier with new leaves
- Limbs growing toward roofs, fences, or driveways
- Trees that need shaping before they put on their spring growth
- Deadwood that will be hidden once everything fills out
- Areas where wind has already stressed or weakened branches

Taking care of these early keeps your yard safer and makes spring cleanup a whole lot easier.

Check out your trees! The other day the wind blew over this dead tree branch. We cleaned it up and removed the rest of the tree. Had to tie it off in 2 places to keep it from causing more damage.

Using a pole saw to help get high enough to keep from hitting the house. This tree was damaged in the tornado 2 yrs. ago, and sent lots of suckers out as a result. I will have before pics on my page.

Thinking About Spring Projects? Your Trees Might Need a Checkup First

Before you start landscaping or building a shed, or house this season, take a good look at your trees. If they need trimming, pruning or removal, it will be much cheaper and easier to do that before your project goes under it.

Right now—late February—is one of the easiest times to spot issues that get hidden when the leaves come out.

A few things homeowners often miss this time of year:
- Branches hanging over driveways or play areas
- Trees crowding fences or roofs
- Deadwood that will be hidden once leaves return
- Trees that need shaping before spring growth takes off
- crossing, or about to cross branches
Remember the weight of the leaves and then spring rains will help those branches drop down further than they already are now.

Taking care of these now keeps your yard safer, cleaner, and ready for all the spring projects you’ve got planned.

If you’d like a free on‑site assessment, you can request one directly through our website. I handle every visit personally and give honest, straightforward recommendations. If I don't know, I won't tell you that I do.

This large Oak had all the large limbs on this side removed, years ago. I was pruning some off the building, so we went ahead and pruned the places that sent out multiple suckers, down to one. This makes the new branch much stronger. This branch was left 4' long and about 8" wide, so we cut it off to help it seal up and keep bugs and fungus etc... out.
