Our Big Plant Expo VIP giveaway plant found its new home! 🌿💗

We gave away this fairly large Philodendron billietiae to one of the VIP winners, and she was absolutely lovely — but I didn’t catch her name.

If you know her, please tag her in the comments so we can congratulate her properly!

Thank you again to everyone who stopped by the Monstera Etc. tent. 💚

Charleston, you were amazing. 🌿✨

We had such a great weekend at the Big Plant Expo! The show was packed, the energy was incredible, and it was so fun seeing so many plant people, vendors, sponsors, collectors, and new friends all in one place.

Huge thank you to our hosts, the organizers, fellow sponsors, vendors, and everyone who stopped by the Monstera Etc. booth. We had a wonderful show, did very well, and genuinely enjoyed every minute of it.

It looked like a lot of vendors had an incredible weekend too — some even sold out — which is always exciting to see in this community.

Thank you, Charleston. We appreciate you! 💚

I was planning to bring this Anthurium Circus Peanuts to the expo… but after seeing it today, I changed my mind.

Nearly 30-inch foliage, an inflorescence tucked beneath the canopy, and fresh growth already emerging. Some plants are simply too established, too special, and too happy where they are to disturb.

This one stays home.

Sometimes genetics don’t read the way you expect.

This is Anthurium kunayalense #4 × Anthurium besseae aff. (Rory Antolak)—and at first glance, you’d swear there’s Anthurium luxurians in the lineage.

That same deeply textured presence.
That rich, matte velvet surface that seems to glow under grow lights.

But there is no luxurians in this cross.

That’s what makes it so compelling—how phenotype can closely mimic familiar species without sharing their genetics. Anthurium breeding has a way of blurring those visual lines in unexpected ways.

Even more surprising—this one had been hiding in plain sight. Tucked behind other plants all winter, quietly sizing up without any attention.

Rediscovered today… and immediately promoted to the top shelf of the grow tent, where it can stay in the humidity it clearly prefers.

The Kuna influence is not something I’m willing to test outside controlled conditions.

And honestly—it earned its spotlight.

Anthurium ‘Tim’s Black’

Acquired through the International Aroid Society (2024) dinner auction, and grown into a specimen that fully lives up to its name.

Elongated, ruffled, velvet foliage with emergents that emerge nearly black—retaining a depth and saturation rarely seen in Anthurium as they mature.

This is what defines a true collector plant:
stable dark expression, refined form, and proven performance over time.

Unicorn plant 🦄

Anthurium rotolanteum — rooted clone, freshly separated from my mother plant.

This is a rooted, flowering-size division from a mature specimen.

These are rarely, if ever, released at this stage.
A true collector piece.
