DECK REBUILD PART 5!!

This week we got the stars built, the flashing tape put on the double joists and finally got to install some deck boards. We still have a lot more to do, but it is nice seeing the progress.

DECK REBUILD PART 4!!!

Things are starting to take shape. We are about 95 percent finished with the framing. We still have to install the rest of the joist hangers, build the stairs, install the flashing and cut the 6x6 post to the proper length. Then we will be able to begin the decking.

Here are some pictures of the deck framing from the top along with a few more from the bottom side. This has been a very fun project to tackle.

Thanks for looking

DECK REBUILD PART 3!!!

We are continuing to make good headway on Mr. Nick's deck rebuild project. This week we completed the first half of the framing, complete with joist hangers, and began framing the second half. All the 6x6 posts are standing, and most of the double 2x10 framing members are installed. While weather has interfered, we are still making good progress.

DECK REBUILD PART 2!!

With the demolition complete, (see last week's post) we were able to begin building the framework for the new deck. We framed the 28x6 section under the gable end of the house, and got about half of the long section framed. The main section of the deck is getting all new 16 foot 6x6 posts, as well as all new ledger boards, rim joists and floor joists. The top of the framing is approximately 10 feet above the concrete. With such large materials, and being so high above the ground, progress movs a little bit slower.

DECK REBUILD PART 1

Mr. Nick and his wife had multiple projects on their home they needed a little help with. For multiple reasons, namely safety, we began by tackling the deck first. The primary section of the deck was 12x82 feet with a 6x28 offshoot to the side. Given the size and height of the deck, it took about a week, just to remove (demo) the existing deck.

We helped Ms. Nancy renovate and upgrade her laundry room, complete with new insulation, drywall, plumbing, electrical and floor covering. The old paneling made the room feel very dark and small, but with the few changes we made, the room is brighter and feels more spacious.

We completed phase 3 of Ms. Lainie's kitchen remodel, (see posts from 01/31 and 02/21for phase 1 and 2.) We relocated the light from the kitchen to the living room, Added 2 additional lights over her table and installed a new upper cabinet and fume hood over her stove. The project is coming along quite nicely. Stay tuned for phase 4 when we modify, paint and update the existing cabinets.

We were given the opportunity to help Ms. Shelly build a semi-temporary divider in her garage, complete with a 28"gate opening. We used 3/4 inch CDX plywood and treated 2x4s to erect an expensive, but sturdy structure. The braces were anchored to the floor in a solid, but easily removable manner in case her needs change in the future.
