Backyard Apricot Growers

I ordered my white apricot tree today. The one place I knew that offered the one I wanted was already sold out at Laurel Bay Nursery she said they start taking orders for fruit trees in sept and Canadian white Blenheim she said is always sold out .so I was really bummed then I did another search and found them at Burpees soo cheap cheaper then laurel bay only 29.95 OMG if that isn’t a deal! so I got my order off . I’m really excited! I’ll cross pollinate the white with my apricot trees (Legend )I might pick up one more tree white apricot knock out to pollinate the Can.white xLegend. But I won’t need it for a few years .

Looks like the trees like the soil mix and I sprayed the trees again.

I think in 2weeks I’ll switch it up and spray the garlic tea on the ones that had the soda soap and vice versa . I love a good apricot I’m hoping next year holds good things. I like comparing apricots taste ,flavor and sweetness.

Hello so today I mixed up the soda soap with oil as the recipe on the post said and sprayed my trees to the front of my back yard a good spraying . So easy to make and smelled really nice. This one said it can be sprayed every week but I think I’m gonna spray when I do the garlic tea on the ones in the back part of the back yard that way they all are done on the same day.

I’ want to try this one too another pesticidal that can also help with powdery mildew that’s no straining looks good to me and easy enough.

Nope not a flower this was me straining the garlic tea through a coffee filter tucked in a cut off water bottle I used to Drain into my sprayer bottle

I made some Garlic Tea yesterday to use on my trees. There are a lot of different recipes some ask for 1 clove others 2 some add jalapeño peppers and onions or chili or a combination of. The things I read in common were 1 gallon of water  and letting it stand overnight . So I’m trying 1 clove (a section piece) of elephant Garlic I grew last year .most of what I read said to blend it but i shedded mine and threw it in a gallon jug added a dash of chili powder because I had no chilis . I gave it a good shake and left it overnight. This morning I sprayed only half of my trees in the far back of my yard because they are all in the same area. IT says to do this ever 2 weeks . I put it on in the morning so it’s not hot yet and there is a delta breeze for quick drying. Now I’m gonna wait and see if my trees are ok with it . Then I’ll spray the other trees . The nice thing is it’s just garlic and chili water ,if nothing else i can always boil spaghetti noodles in it …..lol. Mmmmm….

I have used a lot of potting soils but never have tried making some . I’m gonna have to give it a try and use this guy’s recipe .

I live in the Sacramento Valley they say the weather here is Mediterranean. Summers are hot and dry last April we even had a couple days of 104 .the winters are mostly in the 30’s and my soil is hard clay .( probably could sculpt out pottery from it).
I was told that FoxFarm Ocean Forest potting soil was really good ,So I decided to put it to the test🪴
I repotted 2 of my trees in a 50/50 mix .50 FoxFarm and 50 dirt from my old pigeon coop . I’m hoping they will love it. time will tell and I’ll share pics-

What makes a great apricot depends on your personal preference.some people put taste second behind growing in their climate or how productive it is.Me I want taste first then size I don’t want a tree that gets to big. My first tree was a Patterson it was a heavy bearer of fruit but it lacked the taste I wanted,though some people rave on it. it just wasn’t what I wanted I also had other apricot trees 42 in all and gave away some I no longer wanted ,do to one thing or another to my friends and family.sold a couple and thieves made off with a few from the front yard. Now there is 12 but this winter I plan to add a few more. I’m excited !
