Oh, the critters you will find! 🐛

Good morning, Fully Rooted friends!

Consider this your annual reminder to bring those tropical houseplants inside! Central Iowa is expecting temperatures in the low to mid-30s this weekend, and our tropical friends are not fans of chilly weather!

Before you bring them in, here’s my simple plant-prep routine:

1. Treat the soil. I like to apply Bonide Systemic Granules before bringing plants indoors. September is ideal to give the product time to work, but better late than never! 😜 Always follow the label directions for your plant and pot size.

2. Give them a good rinse. Hose off the tops and undersides of the leaves, and water the soil thoroughly to help activate the granules.

3. Spray them down. Once the leaves have dried, apply insecticidal soap to all plant surfaces according to the label directions.

4. Quarantine your plants. Keep them separated from your indoor plant collection for several weeks and watch for unwanted visitors.

Take a look at the photos! 👀 I sprayed my Plectranthus ‘Cervazas and Lime’ with insecticidal soap but skipped the systemic treatment. Apparently, these little munchers took that as an invitation to an all-you-can-eat buffet! 😂

Over the next few weeks, keep your eyes peeled for spider mites, fungus gnats, mealybugs, aphids, and thrips. These sneaky little troublemakers can turn your indoor jungle into a pest party before you know it!

A little prevention now can save you a whole lot of heartache later. Happy plant hauling, friends!

Hello, my Fully Rooted friends!

I know this page has been pretty quiet for quite some time. But before anyone sends out a search party… I’m still here!

I’m still growing houseplants, although these days, most of them are being grown simply because I enjoy it. There’s something about having a house full of green things that just makes me happy.

I did make the difficult decision not to reopen my Fully Rooted boutique in the newly reopened store of boutiques, now called The Eleven101 Collective. It wasn’t an easy decision, but sometimes seasons change, and I’m learning to embrace where I am rather than constantly trying to figure out where I’m supposed to be.

That said, Fully Rooted isn’t completely retired! I’m still happy to help with houseplant questions, troubleshooting plant problems, and repotting services. So if your plant is having an identity crisis, feel free to send it my way.

And now for the really important news…

I started a new hobby today. Mushroom Cultivation!

You may be wondering, “Does she really need another hobby?”

The answer is no.

You may also be wondering, “Should she get a job?”

Also no. 😂😂🤣🤣

In fact, my new favorite saying is:

“Mind your own business.”

And I mean that in the most loving way possible. 😜😂

Because sometimes you just have to follow your curiosity, make room for something new, and enjoy the season you’re in.

So… stay tuned. I have a feeling this new hobby might make its way onto this page from time to time.

With love,
Andrea @ Fully Rooted

It has been three weeks since Painted Tree Boutiques in Clive shut its doors, displacing nearly 300 vendors. The move came after its parent company filed for bankruptcy, closing stores across the nation. Now, a local business is opening its doors for those vendors to have a place to sell their goods.
