My mini wildlife meadow✨
Meadows are hubs of beauty and biodiversity; curated mixtures of native grasses and flowering perennials provide elegant forms of wildlife habitat that inspire all who encounter them (including your neighboring birds and pollinators) to enjoy their abundance.

This low maintenance garden type is a wonderful way to begin connecting to the natural world right outside your door.
They constantly shift in display as the seasons progress, giving the observer plenty to look at on a daily basis 🔍

Peonies are popping all around! This painting is inspired by the peony right outside my front door, gifted to me by a family member. So nice to have meaningful plants surround our day-to-day to remind us of one another :)

*weeding, edging, mulching, plant divisions/ transplanting, back bed reorganization, and shrub replacement (from an exotic Holly cultivar to native Inkberry)*

Including some hardy native shrubs on your property like this Aronia is a great way to extend the seasons of interest on your property. They are one of the first shrubs to bloom and also have beautiful red berries in the winter that attract all kinds of berry loving birds :) Mutual benefit is the name of the game I like to play!

We often shy away from leaving debris in a formal garden bed, by stripping it of leaves, twigs, branches and rocks, but lets rethink beauty! Leaves and woody elements are wonderful sources of nitrogen for healthy plants as they break down into the soil. They also supply wonderful habitat for important insects that feed the birds, feed the soil, and encourage biodiversity that protects your plants.

Perhaps knowing the benefits of these valuable resources makes me a little biased towards their beauty, but I love the textural variation in a garden bed like this!
