We receive many calls from folks who are concernded their tree has a fungal disease...but not all fungi are bad! Lichen is very common and is actually a combination of multiple types of fungus and they can grow on many surfaces, not just on trees. While lichen itself is not harmful, if a tree is under stress, they may manifest more. Fond of cool, moist surfaces and shade, the north side of your tree may have many patches while the opposite side has none!
