Happy Spring everyone,
This is year #3 of Deanaβs Dahlias Flower Farm. Letβs hope for a good growing season. The last 2 years have been quite tough. I have been very busy all fall, winter, and spring. In the fall I planted 1,800 tulips. Over the winter the dahlias were all divided and, I have been starting seedlings in the house since January for the cut flower CSA. The cool weather seedlings are just now being planted outside and the tulips are just starting to bloom. New this year, I am trying ranunculus. Lets hope they are successful.
DAHLIAS; This year I will be selling tubers for $5 each. I have decided that all that potting and maintenance to have them already started is way too much work for $5 per plant. I will pot up a limited supply for $10 each which is still crazy cheap as you are hard pressed to buy a tuber for that from the catalogs) By Memorial Day they should be ready to put at the end of the driveway. If you want tubers, I will have them ready by Earth Day (April 22) in case you want to start them indoors early. May 6 is our last frost date so they should not be planted outside till after that. I will set them up in the greenhouse, (just up the driveway a little bit) to be protected. FYI, in case you were ever wary of the big white barking dog, he is no longer with us.
