We ❤️ that the original owners left photos of what the house looked like when it was first built in 1989. The second owners made some changes in 2013, but we’re slowly making it ours and giving it the 4P touch!

Our family room has had a few different looks since the house was built in 1989. Scroll through the photos as you step back in history a few decades!
We wanted to maximize the space and take advantage of all the natural light, but at the same time we needed functionality as this is where we gather as a family at night. The carpet was old and worn; the hardwood floors gave a fresh look. The sliding door made an awful glare on the tv and added a lot of heat to the room! So we took that out and closed the wall. We then hung curtains high to accent the room’s height while adding woodwork to the opposite wall to make the room feel more “homey” and less massive. Furniture and rug add textures, color, and comfort!

Flip it and Reverse it!! This weird wall divides our kitchen and family room. It also acts as support for our balcony, so removing it isn’t an option. So we took advice from Missy Elliott and flipped it and reversed it - transferring our outdated wet bar on the family side into a coffe bar now facing the kitchen. Best idea ever and my new favorite “nook” of our house (even though I don’t even like coffee).

Shout out to My Wood Loft for the raw wood shelves and Wild Iris for the adorable hanging shelf!

Sometimes you don't need to completely demo a room to update it! When we moved into this house, the dining room was painted in two different shades of yellow with white trim and typical oak flooring. This was an update from the original decor containing carpet and dark wood trim. Despite the fact that the oak floors were in great shape, we installed fresh wood floors on the entire first floor to create consistently and better match our styles. From there, the room just needed paint, a new light fixture, and (always popular) wainscoting.

Did you know wainscoting dates back to the early 1700s?? It's one decorative tradition that has really stood the test of time. Wainscoting patterns can vary to match your style and can really add value, warmth, and visual appeal to your home. We made ours completely from wood, but nowadays you can find cheaper ways to get a similar look. Some people use fiberboard, embossed metal, or even PVC plastic. It can also be installed in just about any room in your house!

Any other wainscoting fans out there??? I know we're not the only ones.... 😜.

This is SO me!! Luckily, Tom has enough patience for the both us. When we first moved into this house, I wanted to demo and remodel everything immediately. There wasn't a single room in the house that I wanted to leave as is. In fact, I even had plans to change the outside of the house, the deck, the yard, the walkway - literally everything! My mind was spinning with ideas, but Tom kept saying, "Just be patient; live in the house for a bit and get a feel for it. There's no rush." I mean, sure, this is our forever home so I guess there's no real rush, but (as mentioned) I'm not a patient person.

Well, here we are 5 years later and we're still tackling projects. Clearly, I took his advice and lived in the house for a bit. Some things were done right away out of necessity -like redoing the laundry room where the linoleum flooring was curling up at the seams or replacing cabinets that had been painted over too many times and stuck when trying to open them. Other, smaller projects (or what we'd consider "smaller" anyway) have been done over time while we just "lived" in the house and got a true feel for what works and what doesn't. And, I've survived - lack of patience and all!! I'm glad we waited because my initial "wants" have changed and now I have a much better sense for a purpose and plan in each room. Don't tell Tom, but he was right.

What about you? Are there any projects in your house that we've been waiting to complete? Remodels or simple touch-ups that you just "cannot wait" to finish?

Typically, we don't like to post photos until a project is complete, but this morning was the first that coffee was made in our new coffee bar. And, being January 1st, it seemed fitting to kickoff this new year with a new post.

Our house was built in 1989 and wet bars in the family room were POP-U-LAR!! The one in our house was updated in 2013 by the previous owners, but it was an eye sore for us from the moment we moved in this house. Don't get me wrong, we used the bar - for storage and (more importantly) for mixing drinks. It served it's purpose, but the design didn't suit us. For years (and I literally mean years), we had ideas on how to update it, but nothing got us "excited".

Then one day, it just seemed simple. Let's just flip the wall! The other side faced the kitchen and having a coffee bar in the kitchen would be amazing!! So, we packed up the wet bar, demoed it, and knocked down the drywall. Of course, we ran into an issue right out of the gate - plumbing and gas pipes hiding in the wall. We needed a professional to move those, but once that was done, we just kept moving.

The countertop and sink were installed on Wednesday, so we finished the faucet and plumbing connections on Thursday morning. Family came to ring in 2021 with a sleepover party, so we put the coffee bar to use the next morning. Although, it's still missing all the tile on the wall (shipment was delayed twice) and the raw wood shelves (which can't be installed until after tile), we opened the "Palmieri Perk" (shoutout to the beloved Central Perk) this morning! My beautiful niece, Ellie, and I toasted the new bar with french vanilla lattes.

Oh, and in case you're wondering where we're going to mix the formerly mentioned drinks now that the liquor has been replaced with coffee - stay tuned!! We have BIG plans for our front living room. The "Palmieri Parlor" will be opening down the hall from the "Palmieri Perk".

For anyone looking for the perfect coffee mug. We strongly recommend these:

Throughout most of this global pandemic, my husband and I have been trying to find the silver lining - the extra family “down time”, a new found love for the great outdoors, discovering innovative ways to problem-solve. After all, Winston Churchill is claimed to have said, “Never let a crisis go to waste”, and now seems like the perfect time to consider this. So, we not only took advantage of the priors, we also carved out some time to work on a few home improvement projects. And, based on what we hear from the local Home Depot workers and independent contractors, many of you have been doing the same!
Neither Tom nor I do well sitting still. We are both creative people and have never shyed away from a home renovation project. The first house we bought together was a small bungalow that we flipped while living in and then moved shortly after we finished it. New house, new project; that’s kinda become our thing. We’re in our forever home now and have been working at it (here and there) for almost 5 years.
I’m pretty good at visualizing a room’s potential and my husband is super talented when it comes to DIY projects. Although he has a fulltime job that doesn’t involve carpentry, turning my visions into reality is something he does well. So well that when we post “before and after” photos, we tend to get several texts, messages, or calls asking for home reno or décor help/advice from our friends and/or family.
This is where I go back to the top when I mentioned “never let a crisis go to waste.” Since so many of you are hammering (like my play on words here) into this home improvement thing like we are right now, we thought it would be a good idea to start a social media page. A place where we could post our projects and you could post yours. A place for us to share what we learn as we go and a place for you to ask us questions or advice. We want to help you find the purpose of your project, plan it, perform, and perfect it!
