The Ranch House sits at the heart of Devil’s Thumb Ranch, where history and hospitality come together.

As the property’s original homestead, the Ranch House was thoughtfully reimagined and expanded to honor its character while creating a warm, elevated dining experience for guests. We had the privilege of refreshing its interiors, breathing new life into the space while preserving what has always made it special.

A meal. A drink. A celebration with friends. A date night by the fire. The Ranch House was designed to feel equally at home in all of them.

Every furnishing, finish and detail was selected to feel authentic to its setting while supporting the way the space is experienced today.

At Sonderlust, our approach is never about changing the story of a place.

It’s about helping that story continue through thoughtful, intentional design.

Green has a way of finding us.

In landscapes and textiles. Vintage finds and material palettes. On the table, on the jobsite and, more often than not, in the matcha in our hands.

Somewhere along the way, we realized just how often it appears.

Inspiration doesn’t always arrive in grand moments. More often, it’s found in the things we naturally gravitate toward: the colors, materials and details that quietly shape the way we see and, ultimately, the spaces we create.

In mountain and second-home projects, our role often extends beyond design.

We become the consistent thread that carries the design from concept through installation. While the builder leads construction, we remain focused on protecting the integrity of the design—answering design questions, refining selections, coordinating design details, and helping keep the design aligned with the original vision.

We provide continuity throughout the process, facilitating communication between the client, the project team, and the design intent so decisions can be made with clarity, even when our clients can't be on site regularly.

Because distance should never compromise a thoughtfully executed design.

Most design studios begin with aesthetics.

Color palettes. Materials. Visual direction.

At Sonderlust, the work begins somewhere else entirely.

With structure. With sequencing. With how decisions will be made.

Because the reality is, most projects don’t break down because of poor taste.

They break down because of fragmentation. Too many decisions are made in isolation. Too many variables were introduced too late.

Over time, we have come to understand that design is not just a creative exercise. It is a system.

A system that organizes complexity, brings clarity to each phase of a project, and allows creativity to operate within a framework that supports it.
