Please meet Ms. Pat, here on her front stoop and next door to where she was born and raised. Ms. Pat is a florist, and like many others, her business has been affected by COVID-19.
I met Ms. Pat last year when my husband was running for Greenburgh Town Supervisor, and she along with another gentleman, Cliff, showed us what it was like to walk in their shoes for a minute living in Fairview - the 4th largest African American community in New York.
Each day as people are hurt, confused, working hard to make a better day, I wake up thinking, “What can I possibly do? I am just a landscape architect; I just sell plants.”
Today I found an answer that works for me. Plants are not just products; plants are Nature’s representatives, and Nature can be a gift.
This is a set of notes about what I am seeing, experiencing, connecting, and trying to articulate.
It all comes down to this gift. I wanted to surround Ms. Pat with the gift of these perennials - to gift a garden to her, and for her to give to others.
I am posting this here today, hoping you can give a gift to someone in a time where we absolutely need to lean on each other.
