Hey y’all

Just a reminder that even I can have issues that I have to figure out.

These set of orchids haven’t bloomed in quite some time. Doing everything right, thought it was getting enough light, in fact they were not. Added a light about a month ago and guess what they are doing. Growing new roots and leaves and now a bloom spike has appeared 🥰

When you are following everything to a T and still can’t get them to bloom give them more light or move them from where they are at because they do not like the area they are in. Plants will talk to you if you just listen. ☺️ A good indicator that they are getting what they need and are happy is new growth in any form.

* Friendly reminder don’t come at me and say they other groups said they need fertilizer added or you need to do this or that, please note I am not the other groups and will not be doing any of that. Sometimes it just a simple fix like your water or lighting.

Hey y’all

I wanted to show you what could happen with a basal keiki (baby orchid). This happens more often with this type of keiki than with one that starts on the bloom spike.

You all should know by now that keiki’s are not what you really want to see, as it means the orchid is super stressed and starts producing a baby to pass on its genes and make an identical copy of its mother, who may or may not die. If you can get it out of stress mode both will survive. In some cases like this the mom won’t.

With this one it was using the core and the root structure to live once big enough the mom part will die off.

Most of y’all will remember when our roof fell in and we had to vacate our home for it to be fixed. My orchids an other plants became super stressed, this is when the basal keiki developed, it has taken over a year since development for the mom part to die off.

The blooms are off of the keiki, not the mom. Sometimes keiki’s will bloom when they are very young some it takes a couple years

Hey y’all

This post is not orchid or plant related, but something that is near and dear to my heart.

I am married to a Veteran and so many times they are pushed to the side when it comes to health care and what’s available to them.
I started a gofund me for an organization that my husband is part of.

With all of my followers….if y’all just donate a dollar, it will add up!! If you can donate please do, if you can’t I ask that you just simply share!

Please read!!

Hey y’all

Water culture is not a method tha you can just put it in and leave it and hope for the best.

You still have to maintain the orchid. You have to make sure you are using proper water, proper setup, lighting, and cleaning properly. So you get beautiful blooms!

The picture is just a reminder that even though my orchids have been in water for years, I still get mushy roots, dead bloom spikes, yellowing leaves and all the other fun stuff. And I even break something off accidentally from time to time…….

*please note that those roots look like there is nothing wrong with them, but they are mushy, except those in the top right I broke those 😳. You must get your fingers in the roots and clean and feel them.

Hey y’all

These photos are showing you to never give up (as long as there are signs of life).

To give your orchids time and lots of patience. They will bloom for you eventually. It may take months or a year or more to recover, but when it does the blooms are just as beautiful as the others
